Karen:
I am a NRA certified Firearms Instructor. I am certified in Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun, Home Firearm Safety, Personal Protection in the Home and I am a Range Safety Officer.
I am qualified by the NRA for their Range Development program. This program allows me to be able to look at sites that someone may want to build a range on. I can access the site to see if it looks appropriate for range development by NRA standards.
I have been around firearms all of my life, I happened to grow up in a family of very active trap and skeet shooters, as well as bird hunting, and deer hunting.
I decided I wanted to become a Firearms Instructor because I like to help people learn. I feel this is such an important issue in today’s society and there is no reason people should be afraid of a firearm if they are trained in the proper safe handling of a firearm. The single most important thing about being around a firearm is safety. Safety is the number one area you need to know if you encounter a firearm or you decide to purchase your own.
I would really like to see more women get involved in the shooting sports, even if you just go to the range to practice for your own enjoyment. It really can be very satisfying once you become comfortable and you know you are handling the firearm in a safe manner. Women also need to think about their own safety and being able to protect themselves from attack, or intruders in their home. They must know what to do to defend themselves and be a survivor.
